All academic discussions of "rape culture perpetuation" and "trivialization of social issues contributing to the normative acceptance of violence as being laughable and therefore somehow logically it follows that it's acceptable" and all that aside, I just think, as someone who writes and performs various media of comedy and is, at the same time, 100% anti-rape, anti-domestic violence, pro-equality of women, that I have a right, if I think a joke can be told that involves rape but is still funny- and there are certainly criteria that specifically outline whether or not it is, but fuck going into that shit here- I have a right to do so without some fucking jezebel.com blogger shrieking that I'm just as bad as the rapists. I've comforted enough rape survivor friends, girlfriends, and aquaintances and protected enough women from varying degrees of being taken advantage of or being victimized in various ways that I know I am not the enemy here, and if someone tries to tell me that making a joke somehow changes that, I'm going to fucking rape her.
