If an assailant breaks into your house with a knife or is just a big burly fucking drunk dude molesting your daughter, you're gonna need a gun.

Assault weapon is probably the best weapon you can give a woman. It is far more accurate and easier to control than a handgun.

my mention of assault rifles i was probably thinking more like automatic/semiautomatic weapons, if you shoot someone 1 bullet should be enough you dont need to spray in a 90degree arc in front of you

Then yes, you are correct. Nothing beats a shotgun for home defense.

On a side note..along with 10 various guns, i have wasp spray in every room. Pin point accuraccy out to 20+ feet. Great home defense.
