Great, thanks for the info guys. I did a quick search for a similar thread but didnt turn much up. Off-topic but until what lvl can a well-geared bard tank stuff down? I'm not planning on doing it regularly later on, more just out of curiosities sake

Around the 20s you're going to start losing your ability to beat stuff down solo and you'll most likely need to start grouping until you get your first percussion DoT (level 30 or 31). For grouping the EBW is in my opinion the best bard weapon pre-planes. A SSoY Will give around the same DPS until it starts to proc, and by then you'll either be grouping and not want the aggro or kiting and not using melee, so a Yak isn't really worth the money for a bard if you ask me. Sharkjaw Cutlasses aren't bad if you like to see big hits but the DPS overall is still lower than the EBW. I'd also advise staying away from Obsidian Shards... they don't have very good dps at all, they're just good for pulling aggro with the proc. At 28 you can work your 1hb up with a staff of writhing if you don't mind the cha hit, but by around 35 the EBW will have passed it again in DPS.
Conclusion: Go with a second EBW, you won't regret it [You must be logged in to view images. Log in or Register.] | ||

I have problems with dark blue mobs at lvl 50, decked out in planar gear. But I think I tank pretty darn awesome in groups! I just don't have the dps. [You must be logged in to view images. Log in or Register.]

I solo dark blues going toe to toe at 40, when I start to get low I just twist mez and regen, I get about 20% back for every 1% the mob does. Obviously takes awhile but halfway decent for camping quest pieces when the mob is indoors.

IMO, and it is very opinionated! A bard should only dual wield in 3 circumstances:
Fear kiting, tanking, or fighting at a lvl under 20. After lvl 20 you should almost never have a weapon out. A bard is not very good dps at all, but really great at regen songs / dots. (and of course crowd control) Edit - I forgot to list weapons. For tanking Kitch Der Pavz or w/e is great for the dot + dex, Staff of Writhing is good as well, or even a couple Yaks, but I would choose A Kitch Der Pavz over a Yak. For fear kiting I would just use whatever you can get your hands on for the highest dps. Ideally, prior to planes, this would be again, yaks x2 or those quested Electrum-Bladed Wakizashix2. For normal grouping Pre-20, I would go with something that does NOT proc anything, like 2 Ebon Maces or w/e they are called from Lguk.. or again the Electrum-Bladed Wakizashix2 from Mistmoore.
