Dartain the Lost: an epic tale of dumb mistakes and RNG gang rape

So Dartain is the only mob left for me on the solo artist challenge GM
list, and he has been a real bitch. My first attempt I got
slaughtered by 3 see invis rock golems, and my second time he chain
resisted all of my stuns and mezzes. Some group has been farming him
pretty consistently for a while, so when I saw him up on my L1 tracker
I jumped at the chance to take him out. I bought another DA idol and
prepared to jump down.

Not pictured: me aggroing no less than 4 see invis rock golems and
dying like a rat. It was late so I went to sleep. Next morning,

It turned out to be Suirad's lucky day. So I jumped down again.

Well hello Master Yael! I think the A-team might be able to take him,
but not in the morning when so few are on. But fortunately it turned
out BDA was attracted to the prospect of a Loam Robe. After some
failed jumping attempts Auena made it and that finally led to:

Grats BDA. So I resumed my quest for Dartain. This time I resolved to
just clear the golems rather than do anything fancy.

After 30 minutes of therapeutic golem bashing I was ready for the big
cheese. I ivu pulled my ratman warrior down, popped him with he
strings, and went to work.

Got Dartain slowed but those insane necro dots were still eating up my
pet. I thought about clicking my reaper but I figured I'd just
chainstun instead.

Well it turns out Dartain is immune to stun, and it took me like 5
stuns before I saw the message under all the pet spam. This also
explains why I couldn't mez him before. So my pet died to the dots
mostly and I clicked my strings on the fallen erudite who was
conveniently there. Unfortunately he was mezzed and I had to tank
Dartain for 20 seconds or so, and slow had worn off by then.

So although I was pretty beat up I still thought I had him at this point since
my new pet had a lot of HP. Unfortunately he resisted the reslow and then
root broke. I bedlamed myself but he beat through it and killed me
with - and I am not kidding - 0% hp remaining. I didn't cap because I
was hoping my hasted/dual wielding pet would be enough to finish him,
but nope. After I put several holes in my wall I decided to jump down
without DA, since over 50% of the Breganers had survived doing it that
way.

Needless to say, my nemesis mob was not going to let me off that
easily. So I logged on my L1 rogue tracker and dragged Loraen's
corpse under Yael. I convinced Alawen to jump down on his cleric
Daire and he made it on the first try!

So we decided to clear up the tunnel together and split the loot while
discussing the various class imbalances in EQ.

Somewhat surprisingly, Alawen favored some suggestions that buffed the
hell out of druids. But its true Enchanters are something of a broken
class design. Sadly my pet was too puny to proc its Rod of

You can see how much damage the necro dots do. I had a L48 pet
instead of L46 and I runed it before I sent it in, and Dartain is
slowed and still winning, and he resisted the nuke I'm casting right
there. My pet died with Dartain at - yes, again - 0%. Fortunately
that fallen erudite had aggroed again and was sitting around.

And one application of puppet strings was just enough. Probably I
could have beaten him down with the RoA but I decided enough was
enough. The one positive thing: he dropped the Withered Leather Tunic.

So with this Loraen has achieved Solo Legend status and can join Svenn
at the top of the post, albeit in a rather gimpy way. I'm going to
start working on the god mode mobs again now so hopefully there will
be some interesting posts here in the future.
