Default Treeform bug

Hi there [You must be logged in to view images. Log in or Register.] I've found a silly little bug, but it does give the player an unfair advantage. If the player is in wolfform when casting treeform, you get the treeform buff and all the advantages of said buff, but instead of becoming a tree, you just become a larger version of your original race, thus enabling you to duck and interrupt spells, which shouldn't be possible in treeform.
Happy newyear and thanks for making this server a reality [You must be logged in to view images. Log in or Register.]

I tried this in ec yesterday and I stayed in treeform.
Maybe it's dependant on what tree graphic you get? (ie where you cast it)

If u cast the spell without line of sight of another tree model, u will just turn into an ogre sized version of whatever race u are. If u cast the spell with another illusion on (like wolf form) u will turn into an ogre sized version of yourself. Tree form has been like this since the server was launched.

From some previous research I did on this subject:

Quote:
2. when using tree form in a place where you can't be a tree, what model does it make you? Gives you the message "unable to change form here" in outdoor treeless zones (nexus/bazaar) and also in cramped quarters such as deep in the surefall glades bear tunnels. When attempting to cast treeform in indoor zones you get the message that this is an outdoor spell only.
So I agree that in all instances players are getting this buff but not transforming into a tree, the spell should in fact not be landing.

Well not necessarily, I can remember using Spirit of Oak in Karnor's Castle on live, and it transforming me into a tree, despite the fact there are no tree models to clone in KC. The close quarters restriction I cannot attest to, I honestly never tried before.
You can go to OOT and just face your character out towards open water and u will fail to gain the tree model as well. It seems the spell is running a check on closest tree model in line of sight of the character when that value is returned '0' then u get a giant 'xxxx' race.

Ok, I just tested a bit more on EQmac.

I went to KC and tried to turn into a tree in several different spots, but always got the "unable to change form here" message.

I went to Overthere and could only transform into a tree when within a certain range of natural trees in the zone.

I then went to Temple of Cazic Thule, which I know has trees, and was able to turn into a tree. Cazic Thule being a dungeon (yet is outdoors), has walls that break line of sight and I was able to transform into a tree even with a few layers of walls between me and any natural tree.

My feeling is then is for the spell to work the druid has to be within a certain range of a natural tree, regardless of line of sight. Range seemed about 500 units or so.

Not sure how conversation got off what OP is talking about. If you wolf form then cast treeform you turn into a oversized version of your natural race. I can do this in EC in the same spot that if i cast treeform with no illusion on i will turn into a tree.

If a zone has no trees, it should grant illusion human. I posted the patch note and can again if you are interested.

OP presented a very small portion of a bug pertaining to tree form. To remedy the solution it's usually best to fully understand the problem. Have you ever tried to debug code that you have no idea as to how it is functioning? It doesn't work too well, that is to say: not at all.
