i used to live in pocatello, idaho(about 3 hours from SLC). in the heart of mormon america, and i can tell you from first hand experience that mormons are every bit as crazy and over zealous as the OP's link implies.

I have to deal with crazy ass Christians in bumfuck, alaska, can't imagine what it's like to live in the heart of that loonyden.
