I'm not a pro rogue but I'll give my best answer. I'm also new to the server (rogue) level 12.

The main lesson I've learned and have been told time and time again is to not play a rogue as a 1st character. This server is a low pop pvp server, meaning you won't see people, and if you do and they happen to be your level - expect a twinked character to gank you.

But if you're willing to grind it out. Crystaline Short Sword is a great weapon for the price and will last you a while. No you can't backstab with it in your Main hand - use in your offhand.

As for gear, get anything that drops (Leather / Chain) with DEX / STA / STR. Magic Resist is particularly popular for all classes on this server so you don't get 2 shot by wizards.

But in my opinion - if you have cash, get 2 good weapons first. Even with armor you'll be dieing fast, solo. Unless you have a fungi tunic.

I'm considering leveling a shaman as my "solo" character while I'm waiting for groups to form in Unrest and such. If you're looking for a leveling buddy - my name is Etris in game.
