Vyal is a mis informed fellow, dont mind him. As for the OP. Yea the epic pet is pretty bad ass. I wouldnt say it fixes you guys being somewhat gimped in RoK/Velious but it def helps.

Remember Mage Epic is spell you scribe, then summon. So in theory mages will never be with out thier epics.
