Game Mechanics: Are pets dual wielding?

When my pet is equipped with two whips I never see the left (off-hand) whip crack. Is this a graphics glitch or is my pet not dual wielding?

I am a mage and my pet is summoned using the level 34 pet spell.

It has been confirmed in this thread that pets are wielding both weapons. Try equipping your pet with two weapons of different types (e.g. piercing + slashing) and turn pet spam on.
