On a side note. My girlfriend is trying to start playing and she is very much an EQ newb. She chose bard. I remember those being kind of hard to start on. What would you guys suggest as tips for her or should I nudge her to re-roll a new class.

If you want things on easymode have her make a mage, especially with you providing heals/root/snare/ports.

Thank being said, while bards are different I assume you'll be leveling up somewhat slower with exploring and whatnot. That time spent sub-level 20 should make the learning curve less steep as bards don't have a ton of versatility in the earlier levels and songs being dropped won't kill the group. And if it turns out she likes it there is really no comparable class in terms of play style.
