1 point of damage will net you full experience. If you do no damage to a mob, you'll get 25% of the experience, your pet taking 75%. It was changed around alot due to afk levellers at the time.

This is what I was under the impression of too but I can't seem to find anything to back it up at the moment. I know it was posted by a dev.

I can vouch for that mechanic working. While I was leveling off spectres in feerrot, I would snare/dot them and then fear them while the pet killed it. With just using my Darkness snare as damage I was receiving full experience.
