Default One step backwards, two steps forward >>>

Preface: At the core of every thread regarding Server Population, there's been a movement to change game mechanics to better suit PVP in EQ. While I believe this project should remain in its classic setting, I do think some changes need to be made.

At this point it obvious we're trying to come up with some type of strategy to improve population. I have no direct plan for a resolution, but instead of countless threads theory crafting a plan, perhaps we can implement some of the game mechanics suggested in other threads and see if they work out ? If they don't then no worries, we move onto the next suggestion to see if it works.

Essentially what I'm suggesting is moving the server into a beta environment with everyones current characters, and trying out some of these suggestions.

(I understand this would have implication towards the staff of the project due to their time constraints. I have no experience in development, so hopefully someone can chime in and explain if the workload for this en devour would even be possible)

I know most of you guys will play no matter what rules are implemented (within reason), so what do we have to lose ?
