I have a full brain and I disagree. It COULD be because of all the lag deaths (as others have mentioned). It COULD be a number of things different than the two options you outlined. It is because of this, and no firm explanation from the devs, that it is simply speculation. Attempting to counter-argue on speculated points is a waste of time and gains nothing.
