Why yes, I do have taste in music. Pretty good taste at that. Stranger the better, imo.

isitatomic tells the group, 'Hold on to your butts, INC a list of sheer awesomeness!"

*Ros Serey Sothear and Sinn Sisamouth (Amazing Cambodian rock musicians that disappeared without a trace at the outset of the Khmer Rouge regime)

*Nobunny, The Sonics, The Black Eyed Snakes, Reigning Sound (US garage punk at it's best)

*The Carter Family, Hank Williams (Nuf said)

*Selda Same (Turkish psych like you'd never believe)

*Tan Dun (Heavily experimental but still mainstream contemporary Chinese classical composer)

*Steve Reich & Arvo Pärt (Minimalism, hurray!)

*Bone Thugs, Kool Keith & all associated stage names, Big Pun, Prefuse 73, Quasimoto, Digable Planets (Hips and hops of all sorts)

*Hasil fucking Adkins & Moondog (One man bands ftw)

*Erik Satie, Dmitri Schostakovich, Kryztof Penderecki (Requisite European classical bases now covered)

*Captain Beefheart, the Residents (a squid eating dough in a polyethylene bag is fast n' bulbous, got me?)

*Morgan Geist, Matthew Herbert (House... preferably from left field)

*William Basinski, Harold Budd, Akira Rabelais (Tape loops 'n ambient)

*Django Reinhardt, Sun Ra, Thelonious Sphere Monk, Rahsaan Roland Kirk (Jazz doesn't get much better than this)

*Soil & "PIMP" Sessions (Unless it's Japanese DEATH JAZZ!!)

*Retch, Dahmer, Gorguts (DEATH METAL!!!)

*Pilgrim Travelers, The Alphabetical Four, Thomas Dorsey (Gospel the lord doth totally fucking approve of)

*Torturing Nurse, Keiji Haino, Maja Ratkje (Noise and unleashed voice from China, Japan, and Norway respectively)

*Vladimir Vysotsky, Pjotr Leschenko (MOTHER RUSSIA!!)

*Lightnin' Hopkins, Booker White, Snooks Eaglin, Memphis Minnie, Ma Rainey (Top bluesmen and women)

*Carolina Chocolate Drops, Roscoe Holcomb, Bruce Molsky (Mmm, old-time revivalists who know what they're doing)

*Folkways, Rounders, and other great field recorded folk music compilations, especially Negro Work Songs and Calls with the railroad working songs. Damn.

* Lucille Bogan and EVERYONE on that compilation called "Copulatin' Blues". Holy shit, this stuff was recorded, low fidelity scratchiness and all, in the 30s and they were singing songs that began:

I got nipples on my titties,
big as the end of my thumb,
I got somethin' between my legs'll
make a dead man come,
Oh daddy, baby won't you shave 'em dry?

And I suppose I will end this list with that.

P.S. - For anyone curious to know more about any of the above, allmusic.com will suffice in most cases.
I'm surprised you didn't list Gogol Bordello.

I would definitely have listed Emir Kusturica & the No Smoking Orchestra before Gogol Bordello to cover the Balkans.

Fuck, wait... I didn't list Emir Kusturica. Oh well.

Right now it has been mostly Dubstep and old ska/reggae from the 60's 70's. There is a good show on WKCR(Columbia University radio station) From 6am-10am every saturday morning, really some choice cuts played.

I did listen to a lot of rock but nothing new has really been interesting to me, dream theater was the last band I was really listening to but I don't really like their newer stuff. Favorite musicians are Les Claypool, Mike Portnoy, Neil Pert, Zappa, John Lydon and too many others to name right now.

Dude whatEVER.. Forces of Victory is easily in the top 20 most innovative and rocking songs of all time. Alcohol is the best love song I have ever heard.

Some of their shit kind of sucks, but honestly, they are great musicians and inventive songwriters for sure.

They are a hell of a lot of fun, sure, and I was really quite into them many years ago.

But...

This isn't in F&R so I'll keep it civil: There are *so* many other songs out there with more soul, more sexiness, more gut-wrenching loneliness, more whimsical glee than that. That you'd even indirectly almost quasi-insinuate that Otis Redding love songs are inferior compared to Gogol Bordello gets a /boggle from me.

And as for this:

Double boggle. Plastic People of the Universe tho? Hasil Adkins tho? Captured by Robots tho? Virtually all Krautrock tho? Metalmachinemusik tho? Link Wray tho?

I hope you have Soulseek. Let's share, k?
