I believe necro pets follow the same rules regarding the taunt skill as players do. Ie; You must be at least the level of the mob for the taunt to be successful. This is how it works with my enchanter charm,as well. If I charm a lower level mob and send it against a higher level mob it can't keep aggro. When I do it the other way around the higher level mob keeps aggro pretty well. Since your pet will usually be lower level than the mobs you're targetting their taunt will rarely work at all.

Stick to fear kiting or use root to keep mob on your pet.

So the constant "taunting attack master!" spam isn't legit?

From a charmed pet? Nope. But that isn't what this thread is about.

Taunting for pets works the same way as taunting on a warrior, as described in a previous post.

And to the OP, why would you re-roll a necro from Human to Erudite? Did you actually think it would make some sort of game-changing difference?

an Enchanter can tell its Charmed pet to taunt and it will start taunting, can a necro not tell its charmed skellies to? D:

and your right about the ridiculous dps aggro from charmed mobs. half the time i forget to tell it to start taunting, its just that uber.

Actually I was asking a serious question but your lack of knowledge on the subject is glaring for someone who has done "plenty of charming". I've always turned on taunt and assumed it was working, I was simply asking you if the battle spam that says they were taunting was legit or not. Some say it doesn't work even if it says so, but from my testing last night it does. Some mobs simply don't have taunt as a skill so even if you tell them they won't do it. However other mobs, specifically warrior mobs, will actually continually taunt in battle. I believe these ones are actually in fact taunting due to the constant updates they give, and I've seen them pull aggro back from a mob that was starting to run towards me.

Notice how both the gnolls and ogre guards actually taunt during their battle spam, while the spectres only accept my command but never actually taunt. Maybe they aren't supposed to, maybe it's broken, but some charmed pets do seem to be in fact taunting.

Charmed pets dont need to taunt really, their dps is good as is but if you manually turn on taunt they will. Or at least they did last I tried it before Kunark.

Player pet agro is extremely underpowered and could probably use some looking into. This was nerfed sometime after chain petting mobs in sky became fashionable, maybe now that this isn't necessary it can be reversed unless people decide to do that again on raid targets. I remember using a pet to tank the event in western wastes (for bracer of scavenging?) because the giants were linked a bit. You could split off the named one and CH on a pet which caused no agro but players could still dps the mob as long as they didn't eclipse pet threat.
