'character' = 'toon'. when and why?

Nah, people have been using 'toon' since at least classic EQ, probably before.

I started hearing toon a lot after I started beta testing Anarchy Online. Hence the reason I figured it was a European thing, most of those folks would give me a hard time for calling them "Characters." Even Funcom called them toons.

Nope. I heard it in EQ Live 10 years ago, too.
