I think in general people should get the loot for their character and move on and stop being an unnecessary stepping stone for others. Just put an account lockout of like 6 months or something idk.
I prefer competition, so banning loot rights would make things more interesting for sure.

There are multiple issues with doing that though:

1. Account lockouts don't work too well, because people can make multiple accounts for free. Many people make one account per character. Stormfeather is like level 34, so you can make a couple of level ~40 characters on different accounts and switch between them. Leveling from 1-40 doesn't take long with good twink gear.

2. The staff have to do a lot more work when it comes to tracking people who try to sell loot rights. They have the information of who's looting what of course, but you would need to prove each instance of looting was a sale, rather than one player helping another player get an item. You can move all of the loot right sale messages into discord, so it won't be as obvious as someone doing /auction in EC. With Rogean working on EQ Legends, I doubt they have time to enforce that. The staff are stretched thin as is.

3. You are locking some players out of items. People who don't have the time to camp SF may only have buying loot rights as an option. Personally I don't mind this, as item rarity is one of the motivations on a non-instanced server. But remember that this thread is a complaint about not getting the item OP wants.

While I do prefer competition, I don't see a reasonable way to ban the sales of loot rights.

Yeah I don't care what the mechanism is but this server badly needs something to stop the neckbeards from turning scarce spawns/no-drops into their own piggybanks. This problem exists all over (earth staff, angry goblin, ring 7+ MQs etc) and it is a detriment to the server in general.

You do need to care about the mechanism, as we are constrained by what the devs are willing/legally able to do on P99.

As a simple example, if you had to pay for accounts on P99, that would naturally make it more difficult to have shared accounts, individual accounts that could get around an account lockout, etc. This would also enable the devs to pay support staff to enforce the rules better.

But legally the devs cannot do this, even though it is a good idea.

This is one reason why there aren't many solutuons that P99 can actually apply to solve these kinds of issues.

The curse of this era being the only era that will ever be.
