There is no evidence that this practice began with Erud himself, and even with Erud's brilliance, he did not maintain absolute control over his followers. Even in the early days of Erudin, the council wielded power over what knowledge was permitted and forbidden. Against Erud's vision of knowledge above all else. We wear the name heretic proudly, as the word heresy itself signifies an external authority that tries to stamp out the light of knowledge. And there have been many within Erudin itself that share this perspective. Even before the opening of Paineel to the outside world, the Dark Men of Odus flourished with those heterodox thinkers from the three towers.
