I'm pretty sure EQLive will die long before I do. Lot of the leftovers still subscribed to EQ1/EQ2 are bordering or are geriatrics and once they start croaking so does the revenue to even bother keeping the servers up.

The live everquest server really felt like it exists specifically for their ultra long term dedicated audience and not interested in recruiting new players.

I felt like i was intruding on some kind of afterlife cults simulated heaven.

For some, evercrack never ended. They never even migrated to eq2. In the 2006 fanfaire dinner, there was one table with eq1 players and all the other tables were eq2 guilds and competitors. EQ2 was a great game up until they eliminated the Avatars.

It was ez to char xfer in eq2, and that is how you stayed in the competitive circuit. Guild falls apart? recruit to a better guild on another server. The top guilds would pay for your transfer back, if they didn't decide to take you.

Ha. I've never heard it put this way, but damn that's accurate. I felt the same way when I logged in a few months ago

Once Sony sold the company to an obscure foreign investment company and not a major game publisher, the writing was on the wall that the IP would be treated - as someone said in another thread about THJ - like a warehouse product. Something there if you want try it, but not advertised or given much attention outside the faithful leftovers. It did get slightly better once DBG was handed off to a holding company involved in videogames like Enad in 2020, but it's still in the position of being something to squeeze whatever revenue is left of the prexisting fanbase.

Actually playing EQ2 off and on upon revisiting it last year after retiring in early 2015 once SoE was sold off. Just doing solo play of ten years of content added to it along with events and messing with house building. This is the type of chit chat is what I usually see sporadically in the last main server that isn't a progression/origins server. Take in past two weeks

Biggest reason I returned is because the game offered 3 expansions for free (bought recent expansion) and converted to a 64 bit client and DX11. Even tried out origins last year. Game actually runs like you wish it did back in the 2000's, because this game's engine was (and still technically is) a duck taped unoptimized as fuck mess and ran so terribly even on top of the line single core CPU's in 04-05 that you had to play either on Medium-Low (vaseline settings) when grouping without it becoming single digit frame slideshow. Thankfully it can now circumvent most of it through sheer brute force especially without limiting to a 4gb RAM cap.
Didn't stop a lot of old timers moaning on the forums however over how that their relic PC from the 2000's was no longer capable of playing EQ2. Honestly more astonished they were still using a 32 bit PC in today's internet more then anything else.

If I wanted to learn the mechanics all over, eq2's version of a TLP is imo far more fun and social experience than what original eq is doing with TLP's at this point.

Two years ago total coincidence, an old friend came to visit whose wife was a total geek in the "homecrafting" part of eq2. She invented stuff and showed me all her shit.

I logged into my long-untouched eq2 account and showed her my house, which was nicely laid out but all it had was every damn contested and raid housegear drop from the first 5 years.

She recognized my crafted whatever bed. "OMG is that obsidian?" You can't make those anymore!"

Of all the "things that will never happen to me" I got the "Someone will recognize all the items in your eq2 house."

Great.

so does that mean Quarm's already cap of 1200 just got reduced to 800?

p.s. to quote George Carlin, on the subject of those greedy THJ cunts "these dudes need be strapped to a gurney and have their testicles removed with cooking shears."

I thought Quarm (like P99) had their own separate agreement, so the EQ Emu one doesn't apply (but whatever their agreement says does apply).

The new EQEmu agreement is superseded by Project 1999 and Quarm's separate agreements.

However, it is in place for all other servers using the EqEmu login server.
