I think the Hardcore / Solo / Self-found modes will be available end of May / early June.

Then a month later they're looking at introducing a "dungeon finder" system geared for players 50+ that utilizes existing zones (i.e., Befallen) but scaled to higher level players with potentially some unique content? Unsure the exact details.

Hows your big dragon hunting oing Nlaar?

Me and Trex have been working our way through planar flagging, if anyone else wants to join we're on i think teir 2 or 3.

Trex walked us into the agnar raid and I was not ready, then he died, and I managed to stay alive and solo it. First time seeing it, downed it!
!
Grats on Agnarr!

I'm still puttering around, farming Sleeper for augs and am now flagged for PoP, but wanted to try Seru first (damn Yttrium weapons so expensive). Luclin onward is all new for me so I'm not in a particular rush, but I'm realizing it's probably time to level past 60 and go to "Plane of Fire" which I know nothing about but is seemingly the 60+ exp zone in PoP.

By the way, now is a great time to start as there's an exp bonus for a few weeks!

I think so.

The first thing to note is that one can do any combination of the three:

Hardcore - after you die, your character loses "hardcore" status and becomes a regular character.
Solo - you can never group (I think?)
Self-found - anything you want on your character, you have to loot it yourself

e.g., hardcore+solo, solo+self-found, solo only, hardcore only, hardcore+solo+self-found etc.

If you were to play as a "hardcore only" character, then you would still have access to the bazar and any kind of grouping you want. The ONLY difference between a nonhardcore character is, when your character dies for the first time, you lose your "hardcore" status and your character becomes a normal character.

Example 1
Suppose you want to play in hardcore mode with some friends and don't care about how items are obtained. You and your friends would each want to make "hardcore" characters. You and your friends at level 1 could visit bazar and buy Vulak loot.

Example 2
Same as Example 1 but you and your friends want to limit gear to what you and your friends can kill (no vulak loot at level 1). You and your friends would want to create "hardcore+self-found" characters. That way you can group together and your gear would be limited to anything you and your friends were able to kill together (you would have to be present to loot piece of gear).

Example 3
You don't want to play as hardcore but you do want to play with friends and limit your loot to what you and your friends are able to kill. You and your friends would create "self found" characters. No Vulak loot at level 1.

Example 4
You don't want to group with friends but want to limit your gear to what you, a solo player, can accomplish. You would want to create a "solo+self-found" character. You would never be able to group (as I understand it) and any gear/items on your character would have to be looted by your character

Example 5
Same as example 4 but you love the thrill of hardcore. You would create a "hardcore+solo+self-found" character. Upon first death, your character would lose hardcore status. I'm unclear if you would also lose "solo+self-found" status.

Example 6
You want the challenge of playing a hardcore character by yourself, but wouldn't mind a few pieces of vulak loot at level 1. You would create a "hardcore+solo" character.

Example 7
Ultimate challenge: create a "hardcore+solo+self-found" character. No grouping, limited to items/gear you loot yourself and upon first death you lose hardcore status.

So its like, a flag some characters would have on the same server?

That'd be cool.

I wasn't sure if it was a new server or something?

Exactly, flagged and not on a new/different server. Hardcore players will be among us!

During the most recent Q&A with Aporia (developer), he mentioned he's against having a different server at the moment. Maybe in the future depending on how things shake out (he likened it to a "season").

Traditionally you're right, but on stream the dev said that he bumps up against that idea of losing the character so on THJ the character will simply no longer be flagged as hardcore but you get to keep the character.

That definitly sounds more enticing than deleting it.

Gotta hand it to the THJ devs, they know what is both challenging, and feels good.

And how to min max the two.
