I can confirm that you want to GIVE these. My wife & I got a message saying something rare just for you, was in a gift.
We got a Wand of Frost Bolts: https://wiki.project1999.com/Wand_of_Frost_Bolts We have NEVER gotten coal by sharing the gifts, I think that only exists for self-opening. I have also not heard of anyone self-opening a gift and getting the rare prizes. Make some friends, share those gifts!!!!
