Shaman for killing guards / vendor loot farming?

The pet is important for finishing low-HP mobs off without spending more mana, unless you already have a JBB, and it sounds like OP doesn't have that. It's really inefficient to have to spend mana to deal a few hundred damage, and it's also annoying as fuck to have to memorize low-level nukes or whatever every time it happens.

Shaman is alright at grinding guards, but if you don't already have the important stuff (JBB and epic at least), it's definitely less effective than necro/chanter and possibly even mage. Shaman dots and nukes have poor mana efficiency and the dots tend to break root, so it's not a very comfortable experience, nor does tanking mobs make sense before you have JBB.
