Gf’s 13yr old kid didn’t know how to ride a bike. He’s nerdy and smart, introverted type

I told her that’s ridiculous, when he gets to college he might want to be able to bike across campus. That or longboard. So I bought a co-worker’s barely used mountain bike for $50, screaming deal

Today the day to learn buddy

Dunno shit about bikes so I just ran holding the seat repeating “pretend it’s a very sensitive racing controller and keep the handlebar facing forward. When you slow down you lose control so when in doubt, speed up!” After a while I just kept repeating when in doubt speed up

Dude learned in a day, no training wheels required. Jogged 2 miles with her and them around the park because fuck bikes. Bikes are for gays. He was going full out to where I couldn’t catch him running and I told him there, now you have a tool to stay ahead of zombies that can run full speed. Let him TEMPORARILY keep the bike too

When we got home, if it were me I woulda been taking that thing all over the neighborhood. He went right back to his tablet. Makes me feel like a sad boomer to see that [You must be logged in to view images. Log in or Register.]

Pic is awkward bc I didn’t know she was taking one, I think I was talking

Lol yeah I'm already getting some of these moments with my 4yo and have to fight my discouragement. If these kids are anything like us, probably ain't gonna appreciate shit we do for them till they hit their 30's and start looking back on it. It takes a while before saplings grow up to produce fruit! It's a weird mental trick to wanna do something when you're not gonna see returns for maybe a decade+

Not sure if that's how much it impacted you, hit home for me lol so it's just me throwing my take out there
