I don't see why we even need a binary approach. It does not have to be one or the other.

Yes, the United States and China are both social democracies to varying degrees.

Marx did not win, but I think he'd be reasonably satisfied with this outcome.

The 20th century is marked -- in the West! -- by tons of economic adjustments and "mixtures." If one takes an econ 101 class, I am pretty sure the technical term for this is a "mixed economy." It's what all "modern" economies look like.
