that location could tell us alot about what happened in geologic history and why an underground city for 20k people was built

Catacombs exist all over Europe. I think they started as defensive structures but were repurposed into mass graves.

I think the truth is those people lived down there after the global caticlsym that is written about in gilgamesh and the torah, and bible, and budist and hindu and the rest of the worlds religion.
