I always cook fryer chickens and the like in a rotisserie cooker. Don't think I've tried it out of a cast iron pot before. Assuming you've had both, how would you compare the relative advantages and disadvantages of each?

You get the crispiness of the skin out of the rotisserie better, I think. I also admit I screwed up the browning step, maybe that's more possible in the dutch oven had I not screwed it up. Kind of a rookie with the thing, and I've never used the little spinny rotisserie thing on my grill. Or owned some kind of separate rotisserie cooker, if it's a separate device.

I bought a dutch oven originally because it's versatile. I've mainly used it to make bread, stews, pork chunks... still working on learning some other stuff. I did intend to use it when I went camping this fall, but that's not gonna happen now.

I've bought lots of rotisserie chickens, though, they definitely seem crispier.

Gotcha. We do have a separate, purpose-made machine for that type of cooking.

he lost the plot at sticking whole garlic inside the rib roast like that, not only that, rib roast is supposed to be cooked fat cap up so the fat dribbles down on to the rest of the roast. Newbie mistake

Yeah, one of those, good catch. Had ours probably twenty years or so, think we bought it at Sears or someplace...don't recall for sure. Might be the one good thing that company ever made, still works like a charm and it's dang near indestructible.

That thing is pretty cool, but I think I need more counter space for something that size.
