The transparent UI existed during classic with more limitations. The Freeport picture shows an earlier iteration, when the windows couldn't be moved. You can see the grab handles in the corners on the GFay picture. Those were added in late Sep. 2000. And 10 hot buttons came in Nov. 2000.
