Brandon Lee was hit by a squibbed bullet (lodged in the barrel)
When the blank round was fired, the resulting gas pressure mobilized the squib load and hit Lee.
All "real" guns will fire blank rounds, "prop guns" will only fire blanks -- If they fire at all.
Information known
at this time is that Baldwin was handed a "real gun" with a single live cartridge.
