You guys are missing two of the most important aspects of haiku.

One is that there should be some reference to either nature or the insignificance / impermanence of life. References to a season are a common way to accomplish this, as all seasons end and bring forth a new season, and in turn all years end in winter, where life is dark, only to give birth to a new spring, etc. This can be as simple as referring to a cherry blossom, which is a symbol of impermanence because they are so perfect yet last only a very short amount of time before falling and withering.

The second is an "ah ha!" moment, where the audience is supposed to glean some token of wisdom or mirth or just deeper insight into your poem, all at once. It's kind of like a punchline; in haiku, you're supposed to set the audience up for the "ah ha!" moment.

Without these two aspects or a decent attempt to adapt these concepts to other aspects of life, a poem with 5/7/5 syllables is not haiku.

The majority of kigo, but not all, are drawn from the natural world. This, combined with the origins of haiku in pre-industrial Japan, has led to the inaccurate impression that haiku are necessarily nature poems. --wikipedia

Slathar, you're really funny man. Call me fat again, so we can all laugh some more. And then maybe after that, you can call me fat a third time, which will be hilarious!! After that, you could conclude with calling me fat a fourth time!!!

I was quoting wikipedia ironically, like an awesome hipster. As in, "Wow, it's hilarious how just the first paragraph of this superficial little site shoots you down." You might have recognized that if you had more than a few classes at your dump of a community college. I'll show you how it's done:

You think you're so smart,
But really you don't know shit.
Learn 2 Haiku, bra.
