Even with a plebian DW helm you can solo quite well. I was in mixed DW armor with a Reaver then Narandi; spike seahorse towards 60 but never felt out-gunned with the general stuff. Even the helm on hard to root mobs will get you a couple clicks/hundred hp on average for 30 mana. A lucky Enstill will get you like 10 clicks for 60 mana.
One thing I'd suggest is some shaman DS pots. Not for leveling speed but to help burn down those mobs that surprise you. A 2 pull or a named. I expect it would almost double a paladin's dps when needed.
