So think about any competitors who have sprung up in the last 5 years that challenge any aspect of Facebook/Twitters business. They just buy them out or get them kicked off hosting services/delisted. This is exactly what the robber barons did. It’s really not that complicated.
What do social media competitors offer that facebook doesn't offer? A different color scheme?

I bet you thought Myspace had a monopoly too.

The reason there is no competition is because competition in that market is driven by 1 thing, the creators desire to compete with them. Otherwise you'd be cloning the exact same product and putting a different label on it, thats it. That's why there are no other social media platforms outside of CHINA duh.

The only reason you'd compete building a new social media platform, would be if you had some AMAZING idea about what one should be, and if it was an amazing idea, great.

BUT THEN to make your argument even more stupid now you're saying, if you want to sell your amazing idea to facebook, you shouldn't even be allowed to??? LOL

Again, more commie nonsense, is the only way to defend any of your statements.

Different end user agreement, the understanding that your data is yours, different algorithms not based on plugging people who have things to sell to you but connecting content creators together.

I could also add that the competition in this industry is largely based on the number of users you have.

Facebook wouldn't be facebook with 1 million user.
Ello is great but it doesn't have the number facebook pulls so you stay on facebook to also connect with the people only using facebook.

I mean, this is a narrow conception of what social media is and what it should do and no, they are not all facebook clone the very same way not all mmo are EverQuest clones or wow clones and they usually offer something specific to garner their audience.

You mean like Instagram?

Oh right it's a "free market" when you have a company(FB) who can pay IG for 1B and then 6 years later it's worth over 100B? Like of course they can just buy companies out who even remotely sniff as being a competitor. Snapchat is dying because they refused to sell to FB...surely that's all above board.

I love that on this forum I can be called a commie and a nazi by nazis and commies.
