My buddies from the old days occasionally get together from the 4 corners of the earth around holidays and binge for a couple days.

Second edition only.

I agree, unless you've ever played with a GREAT DM, it's not really much fun.

ive always had the privilege of being the DM and thankfully i learned from people who played ad&d and the star wars rpg put out by west end games. these were i think some of the last games that put a real pressure on the dm to be excellent. with the later editions of the games the mechanics took over and the story telling took a side role
