Now this is Classic! the other evening I was heading over to Erudin, took the boat from Qeynos, got thrown off the boat as it zoned into Erud's Isle, swan the length of Erud's Isle until I found land, waited for the boat, finally caught the boat heading to Erudin, never saw the platform and wound up heading back to Qeynos, looking forward to another trip on the boat. On the "plus" side, I got my fishing maxed during my various waits for the boat. (I jumped ship the second time to Erudin and swam to town, everything can be overcome)

Erudites rejoice! A message in a bottle just washed up on the shores of Odus and it reads:

I tried a blind fix in this patch for what I thought might have been causing the problem. It apparently didn't work. Unless the bug gets fixed, there's no point in me addressing it. The reality is still that you'll have to petition or swim out to the boat yourself in order to get to Qeynos.

Hah. This is actually pretty entertaining. I rolled up Alzar, Erudite Wizard. Got to 2nd in the nightmare that is Tox and decided that it wasn't any better 12 years later. I remember reading the FAQ and seeing that boats were working, so I go sit on the skiff for, oh ...an hour. I didn't know anyone, and I was, for all intensive purposes, the only player on the whole damn island for over 16 hours. I go back to Tox and get pwned repeatedly, so I get annoyed and go back to the skiff and sit another 45 minutes. I started drinking (me, not my character), and began to laugh, thinking this was literally ...Classic.
About that time I had just about given up and was going to re-roll and right after my 4th shot of jager, I did a /who and lo' and behold, there is another player here! He tells me the boat is working, but the skiff is not. So I run back to Tox and sit at the druid ring for about 2 hours. I died another 12 times just sitting there, but by God, I'm getting off this damn island. Wrenn shows up and graciously shoots me to NK, binds me in the gypsie camp, hits me with SoW and Invis, and off I go. Once I made it to the river, it was like riding a bike and it all came back to me. In fact I swore I saw the trail in the pixels I had made long ago, hauling bags full of rusty weapons from Splitpaw to Qeynos, at encumbered walk speed, so I could afford my my first suit of bronze platemail. I was crapping diamonds half the time, and it really brought the old feeling of playing at release home to me for the first time in years. Of course by this time, I was 'round the bend - so to speak - so a griffon, or Froon and Choon could have stuck it right in my ear and I wouldn't have really known. In any case, I made it, got a bind, and the rest is history. I did consider sending up a quick petition back when I was on the island but thought that was a bit too ridiculous. Hell, if I had gotten a petition like that back in the day, I would have grinned and said "Swim it. Let me know if you lose your corpse. Have a nice day." I swear to you, when I get my ports, trips to and from Odus will be free. For everyone. Alzar Azorath Rahvan Zakainen

I like to swim in the water and watch the ship pass by. Then I dive underwater and go to the bottom and drown and repeat the whole process making shapes on the ocean bottom. Nothing greater than swimming across the entire zone just like sharks would and getting killed if you don't swim (+1).
I think after all this me and sharks are closer brothers than ever.
