Like I said, you sound like you're grumpy because you're not being handed exactly what you want, when you want it, how you want it. You're purposely playing a game of limited scope, and purposely picking a small niche of the game ("level 50 content" and raiding, it sounds like)... then being confused when there isn't enough of that to go around.

If you really can't have fun on p99 without everyone's favorite zones being half empty during primetime so you can "actually play," then I mean... good riddance.
Or maybe I want to be able to play the part of the game I'm actually interested in without 300 people in the zone, because we know classic EQ has such a wealth of content zones. But sure, go ahead and act high and mighty with all that riveting exploring you're gonna do on this great cast mystery of a game.

The one solace of this is that there will probably be enough quitting it might recede down to a reasonable pop limit.

It's not a question of "not having it handed" - there were 110 people contesting Dragons on Teal last week alone. 40+ in LGuk. Multiply that by two and we've probably upgraded to non-functional.

Also the irony of you guys that bitched about empty lower level zones to cause this complaining about about somebody else not getting what they wanted handed to them.

Hope those Oasis groups are really sweet.

What was the average server population in EQ? This is not gonna feel classic if its overcrowded. Classic EQ had multiple severs, so maybe they need to keep multiple servers.

Depended on the server, but big ones like Fennin Ro had over 2k (I remember over 3k a few times) in vanilla era:

Im glad im not on Fennin Ro.
I saw 2100 people on it last weekend.
Man thats gotta fucking suck.
I mean its the same thing on my server as well, just not as bad. 1800
is a typical number on Bristlebain evenings.

A merged Green/Teal is still gonna be pretty low-pop for Classic.

This is why a merge makes sense to me, classic population was almost always > 2000 on my server.

In classic days Cazic Thule was a hot zone camped for xp and loot, nowadays on green it's empty except the rubi camps. Sol A is a bit more active on Green but still far below classic utilization. Highpass hold almost never has a gnoll group, and rarely orc groups.

These are off the top of my head.

Nice quote! I always remember saryrn being like 1500-1600 during kunark as one of the smallest servers, but I wasn't around during classic to remember the server select #s then.

In the first 1/2 of the year 2000, the lowest populations servers were the Zeks, with usually Vallon Zek being at the bottom, Tallon Zek above it, and Rallos Zek above that, or there were sometimes 1 to 3 servers between TZ and RZ. The population of these servers in the months before Kunark ranged from 600ish range in offtimes to well over 1100-1200 at peak.

During the same time, the top servers, which were most of the older servers, occasionally hit 2000 at peak, but I don't remember any of the top 1/2 of the servers every dropping below 1000 people in offtimes.

The thing was, though, people took forever to level. I didn't play in beta and my first char was a bard (granted, hybrid pentalty and I explored a lot) and it took me months to even get to 30.

I started a druid on Teal on Dec 2 and I'm about to ding 41 and I've done a fair amount of farming. We just know how to play the game better now.

People assist, don't break mezzes, play their classes well - I'm constantly amazed at situations in groups where we survive without a death which would have spelled 6 deaths and a nasty CR in 2000.

So I think comparing 1999-2000 server populations is really a non sequitur.

Thanks for being reasonable. A 1500-2k person server would be unplayble these days.
