Wow, I'm surprised Iksar isn't considered a must. I remember reading before people saying it wasn't even worth making a Necro if not Iksar and that you'd be better off as a Mage than a non-Iksar Necro. Happy to see that not everyone agrees with that though haha.

Alright then, if not Iksar... I guess its between Erudite, Gnome, and Dark Elf?
I wouldn't say it's a must, but the Iksar regen is definitely a huge boost for Necros. Not so much 1-50, but it's definitely noticeable in the 51-60 level range, especially while solo grinding that long road to 60 once you hit level 51. Are you going to be hugely hamstringed by not being an Iksar? Not at all. But as an Iksar you'll definitely love that regen at higher levels.

I suppose there's an argument that the lower Iksar downtime is somewhat offset by their XP penalty though, and that maybe it takes you just as long on an Iksar to level as it would on a non-Iksar. Would be interesting to see a data comparison lol

Iksar is by far the best race for a necro.

Necro is by far the best class in classic due to being able to solo most of the end game group camps.

In Kunark necros are not the best class as they can't solo any of the end game group camps, while other classes like shaman & ench can.

Iksar are the best necros but non iksar are still fine, they just dont have as good a regen at later levels. A non iksar will solo slightly slower.
