There are probably a handful of people who checked out p99 and got turned off with how basically everyone is running around crazy twinked, having alts to res/buff, doing /q in your group when a target pops.

Maybe they are thinking of doing something like having Green be a server that at the end of the time line your characters get moved to Blue and the server resets. Since you could obtain era limited items it would be a incentive to play Green.

Silly me was under the impression the incentive to play Green was experiencing classic EQ on a natural timeline.

ain't nothing classic about people farming manastones and beads non stop, knowing exactly when they won't be available, knowing every bug and quirk of eq inside out. That's the nature of having a game people were obsessed enough with to dig through old patch notes, forum posts on the waybackmachine, etc to recreate the game as it was.

Green is just going to end up like Blue because that's what happens when you lock a game that wasn't designed to end.

Realistically you need too provide some incentive to get people to move over and ditch the characters people have dumped insane amounts of time and effort into.

Sorry to be the one to inform you but the list feature won't stop items from being perma camped on green, Imagine AC camp on blue but 20x worse and that will be the manastone list on green.

Giving players incentives to play on a server is dumb though, either you want to play it or you don't, enticing players to play green with the sole objective of bringing items back to blue ultimately fucks over both servers. Just opens you up to a ton of platlords seeking to make a fortune on their green items, so Green players have to deal with those shitlords which isn't fair to them, and then 3-4 years from now they get to wreck the Blue economy which isn't fair to Blue.

This is ridiculous dude.

Seriously, why are these legacy items such a big fucking deal? Why is this all anyone is talking about?

Its undiluted pixel envy. The perceived current scarcity of these items make them desirable. Of course with rolling green servers they won't even be scarce. Every three years they will flood into blue. Of course no one will care about blue in 3n years.

In the case of things like Rubicite or Guises I suspect it's mostly a case of wanting the mcguffin. These items AREN'T a big deal. I have a guise'd Paladin. Hardly anyone cares. The few who do stop caring after 5 minutes when the novelty wears off. Manastone might be the exception since most the folks camping it are seeing virtual dollar signs. Effectively that one's the same as any other high-value cash camp.
