How is Shaman solo? The idea of being useless until 60 is crazy to me.

shaman solo is pretty slow until the 30s. lots of med time. once you get your doge and scourge at 34, life gets a bit easier.

Can you solo? I mean... you’re tempting me.

If you are dead set on only soloing then be warned it will be a tough road and you'll need good gear. Like any melee except monk, soloing gets tough. If you have patience you can solo a Ranger with arrow kiting and so forth. If you really want to just solo then it's not a good pick. Bard/Druid/Enchanter/Necro/MOnk are all a much better pick for that scenario.

Ultimately the question comes down to the same questions as a character on blue, minus twinking possibilites.

1. Do you plan to play this character to max level, and for the entire life of the server?

If the answer is no, then many things change, if you plan to sit in the 40's to 50's druid is a very sound option for fun, versatility, and usefulness.

2. Do you plan to raid on this character? What role?

If yes (tank) warrior is obviously your answer. If yes (max fun) then monk, rogue, wizard. If yes (medium fun/sometimes sacrifice) then shaman, enchanter, ranger, druid go here. If yes (and I want to hate every minute of it) put necro, mage, and sometimes enchanter and shaman here. If yes (and I just want to collect loot for free) play a Paladin or shadowknight.

3. Do you want to solo?

If yes (for phat lewt) put necro, shaman, enchanter and sometimes druid here. If yes (for xp) put add wizard to the list. If yes (and that's all I want to do) remove shaman and enchanter, add mage.

4. Do you plan to make alts?

If yes, starting with a caster that can solo is highly recommend, if you roll a monk, it a warrior, or even a rogue in classic, all of your money will go to gear for that toon, casters have more leeway.

5. Do you like playing a bard?

If yes, play a bard, trumps all other considerations. Bards are dope, but if you hate it you will suck at it. The same goes for Enchanter and Shaman, but to a lesser degree.

6. Final consideration, what classes have you played before and liked?

For you first toon on a new server, especially in classic, play something you know and enjoy. Classic is rough, new servers are rough, dont make things more difficult than they have to be.
