It wasn't about actually fighting shissar in game though. Heck, I'm not even sure the shissar in Luclin are affected by the bane damage (Not saying they don't, just that I don't know). The bane damage was added because of the LORE between the iksar and the shissar.

Since the greenmist is an iksar weapon, it would make sense they make a weapon to counter their biggest former masters, the shissar.

The running theory (I say theory because I'm not sure if this is confirmed, but according to the SK boards this is truth) is that Bane DMG adds to the base damage of the weapon.

Cleric's summoned hammers have Bane DMG vs. Undead and it seems to be working along those lines. So essentially, Greenmist would be 24/22 against Shissar (when Luclin comes out, at least).
