Shaman ranger is very nice. Spell haste + slow + snare if you want to do stuff outdoors. Both Shaman dots + pet would definitely make kiting effective.

As a ranger, I would go with the shaman for the reasons cited above. There's plenty of outdoor trash to pull well into your 50s now that Kunark is out. If your ranger is outdoors, has root and snare, and isn't retarded when pulling and sticks to blue con melee mobs, the ranger shouldn't die. Especially with SoW.
