I /role sometimes because if I'm busy and having conversations with people I don't want to deal with constant port requests.

And all of you saying you won't port/talk to/trade with anon people must be antisocial babies. If they send you a tell you can type /r where you at?

Not that hard.

Anon gets its bad name from MacroQuest and hiding your guild tag.

Nothing more, nothing less.

Speaking as someone who played a druid for 7 years on live and I don't think EVER used /role or /anon I can say this. /cope.

Lets count the keystrokes. "R" "spacebar" "n" "o" "enter" wow.... 5 keystrokes? No wonder you go /role. Yeah, I can totally understand.

/sarcasm off

As for the /r where you at. Yeah and then you get mad if you're in tells with someone and you get constant tells from other people? or if you're trying to solo heal frenzy and people are asking if you're near Sol B?

I dont understand where you people get off thinking that you should be able to know where I am if I don't want to be found.

The fucking gall of some people.

Using anon is actually a good strategy and always will be, especially for high lvl raiding guilds. The nubs will never comprehend that because well they are obviously inferior. Why would they want you to know where they are, especially when they can have an advantage over you gear wise? And furthermore, if they don't want you to know where they are, that's their prerogative. Cry more noobs.

I agree. The people in this thread are a bunch of nobodies anyway, so who cares?

Let's go be awesome together.

Totally.

I was anon for about an hour earlier and had people pestering me about it.

If I'm in your group or guild and I'm actually *doing* something that's an actual problem for the group or guild (as in a real problem, not whiney asshats getting their pink undies in a wad and purporting to tell others they can't be /anon or /role), then call me out on it, by all means. Like Spicoli said to Mr. Hand....When we are together, it's OUR time. Knock yourself out.

But when I'm off doing something on my own on MY time, whatever the hell it may be, I might go /anon or /role and I don't have to (nor will I) offer any justification for it other than I fucking feel like it.

The balls on some people never cease to amaze.

Its your own problem.

As a lowbie who is anon or role it will be harder for you to:

-find grps
-find ports
-find rezzes
-find buyers on anything you sell

and also you minimize your chance on some nice gifts.

If this is worth it for you, go ahead.

I just got a ten minute lecture from someone for being anon, seriously? I prefer a purple name, it's not that big of a deal and really rude to be talked down to about how I'm not helping others grouping and checking camps because they don't know what zone i'm in. I'm rude if I don't help them be lazy.
Well i was just trying to explain you, you make your own life harder.

Look you were asking why your med skill always resets. I did /who all "you" and saw your anon. Mostly i would just decide not to answer your question because of that.

If you werent anon i would see youre , for example, a lvl 6 cleric. I would have told you "you can train meditate at lvl 8". But when i see your anon/role i just dont gonna ask you what lvl and class you are, i just leave you with your question.

Same thing for ports. I read ooc cause im bored. Someone asks for a port. I do a /who, i see this guy is a low level so i decide to port him for free. If i see the guy is anon...i wont port him, not because im mad hes anon but just because im not gonna send him a tell "what lvl are you" and he might response "lvl 40" and then i say "oh sorry, too high for free ports"...

I totally understand when higher levels especially clerics and druids go anon/role but where is the point for lvl 5s to go role/anon? you just make your own life harder.

And if the reason is because you like purple more...i tell you its not worth it.

It's not like turning in your Book of Discord or something. It's /anon...a temporary conditon, ffs. Anyone who can handle actually playing EQ, probably has a handle on the appropriate times to use it or not use it.

When someone is sitting at a camp, working on tradeskills, windowed out lookinh at porn, or just feeling like being anon, they aren't necessarily doing a trade or are in need of a port or rez are they? And with the stroke of several keys, they can be un-anon can't they? How difficult a concept is that to grasp? It's not, unless you are veiling a need for telling other people what to do and sticking your nose in their business with concern for newbies.

Arguments like this is what I find so galling in these discussions....for 11 freaking years. I will fully conceed that there are many reasons why one would not want to be /anon at certain times, but people who are against it generally never conceed that there are legitimate uses of /anon or they have to have some golden reason why someone would need to do it. You don't. It's none of your damned business if they are anon or not or why. Let them worry about it. Honestly, I find the level of concern that some people have for this a tad manipulative and, frankly, kind of creepy.

Weather you port them or not is up to you. They probably won't care if you don't. They probably particularly wont care if you don't and they find out you are so petty as to worry about weather they are anon or not. Especially when you can't throw a rock without hitting 3 druids.

If anyone ever refused to do a trade with me because I was anon, I would laugh in their face and nominate them for Shithead of The Year.

Seriously, why don't we all concern ourselves with something that actually matters to newbies, beyond free advice, gear hookups and ports conditional on being /anon or not. It's petty as all hell. Like aggro control being a group effort. I've grouped with like 4 people under level 20 who got that memo and, frankly, the worst of them are often the ones that claimed to have left for WoW during the awful terrible Luclin and PoP eras because "things got too easy." Ponder the irony of that for a moment. Or the fact that just because you can play a mage, doesn't mean you have any clue about how to play whatever class it was you twinked with the mage...Particularly twinked bards and enchanters. Maybe we might not almost wipe every other pull. I've run into like 2 of those who weren't a detriment to themselves and others every other moment in a group. I'd love to see an 8 page thread about all of that.

There's an old expression: Don't sweat the small stuff. /anon and /role are about as small as it gets.
