Eating pork today has a risk infinitely less than it did back in biblical days, but back then Jewish and Muslim societies developed a mechanism to restrain the eating of pork because it was dangerous. tell that to the poppy picker in afghanistan who's only guard against a miserable existence infested with flesh eating worms is his shithead god. it's not his fault pigs will eat pretty much anything including carrion and the idiocy or his forebears has failed to produce an environment capable of effectively mitigating associated dangers. he could still safely it it, he just doesn't know how.

see in the developed world, we know how, but more importantly, most of us don't need to because of compulsive safe farming and food handling practices instituted by our benevolent overlords ^^

Same thing with slut shaming: we have birth control now so there's no need for society to control women's fertility, they can control it quite fine themselves. But we still have slut shaming, because of people whose beliefs are "holdovers" from before birth control. And, unsurprisingly, conservative religions tend to be holdovers when it comes to slut shaming too, almost as if conservative religion by its nature is a force against progress ...

no, it's not the same thing unfortunately ^^. yes, contraceptives are available and when used directed, birth control is highly effective. however, a 40% share of child births being claimed by single mothers indicates many women are no more capable of responsible use than they are of choosing dependable mates.

So which side are you on, the conservative forces holding back progress, or people who believe in treating women like equals in a modern society?

im on the largely vacant side of reason. i don't care whether it is accomplished by shame or law, so long as we do not continue subjecting women and children to undue hardships simply because some men want better access to sex. if we are not going to deter destructive behavior with shame, then it is morally incumbent upon us to safeguard against it with legislation. conditionally sterilize all persons at birth and then license parenting. then people, their families and society are free of the risks of unplanned pregnancy and the lineages of suffering so often spawned from them.

P.S. We do not shame men who fail to take care of their mothers/partners in anywhere near the same way we slut shame. Slut shaming is a pervasive practice which impacts all women in our society. It affects not just who women get to sleep with, but what they wear, who they associate with, etc. Shaming men for not being good providers has no equivalent societal pressure because it's a tiny force by comparison.
