Something that I've really become aware of as I've started playing again, that speaks to I guess OP's point, is that everywhere you are leveling up, there are people with their level 60 cleric / enchanter alts logged nearby, constantly going around buffing people and 96% ressing them.
This makes all the content leveling up infinitely easier, and eliminates any consequence to death. The danger and the risk are a huge part of what made Classic EQ what is was. Further, there are a million people available to port you at any time, anywhere, largely eliminating your need to run anywhere or take boats. This has the effect of vastly shrinking the world and causing people to avoid a lot of the traveling that also made this game what it was. It would be nice if there was a way to start a fresh server while still guaranteeing a similar population level. I also agree with some of what other posters said, that bringing in new players who have never played EQ before would be a huge part of recreating the experience. I wonder if P99 is allowed to advertise, or if they would have an issue with people taking out ads on their behalf? | ||

I agree that new players are the backbone here. Whenever I replace some gear I'll run through GFay and hand out old stuff / plat / buffs to newbies that want it. I'm not sure if this helps at all with any kind of new player retention, but I know I appreciated the Wraith Bone Hammer I was given as a newbie. If I hadn't gotten it, I'd have played the hell out of this game anyway, but it was still helpful.
