Give me a break. It's entirely possible (and likely, even) that some of the people who participated in waking the sleeper enjoyed it in and of itself, not just because they were trying to spite the rest of the server or increase the future value of their rods.

***Honestly just talk to some of the members of Rampage, many of them are candid about it. Sure, there was some enjoyment in the experience of waking the Sleeper, but the primary motive truly was giving the server the biggest middle finger they could before they quit p99.

I didn't deny that this might be the case. I just said Izmael was probably incorrect that this was the only motivation for everyone involved.

I was an officer of Rampage. I can't speak for everyone else, but like I said before, waking the sleeper is the biggest event in Everquest and I wanted to experience it. I play Everquest for fun, not out of some weird anger to keep casuals from experiencing content. Not everything is about you.

You realize that p99 isn't instanced, right?

Literally every time you've ever killed something, turned in a quest item that despawns the mob, looted a drop... every time you were denying the person who showed up later the chance to do what you did.

Are you a dick for killing Hadden and looting his earring, and then when someone logs on an hour later to look for him he is denied the chance because you got "the apple" instead?

Are you a dick for turning in a shimmering pearl for your cleric when another cleric wants it too?

Are you a dick for winning a one-time GM event instead of letting the 2nd place guy have the prize?

Are you a dick for winning a BOTB and getting a title instead of the next guy?

Nope.

And Rampage aren't dicks for experiencing content just because it so happens to also deny content to everyone else, either. They might be dicks if they revel in the salt that comes on account of what they did, or if they woke the sleeper solely to spite everyone else. But short of that? That's non-instanced MMO for you.

Oh c'mon, killing the Sleeper is nothing like any of those, or anything else in EverQuest for that matter. It is the only way, in the entire game, that you can affect the world permanently.

They respawn; Sleeper doesn't.

i heard that hokushin flew into an autistic rage when a competitor guild got the first Gharn's Fist of Nerdiness and whipped his guild of burning out neckbeards onward into a teary eyed attempt to give their lives some semblance of meaning beyond hemorrhoids and type 2 diabetes

really not much "content" to experience with the sleeper. I checked the twitch and it was basically the same as EQ always is. a lot of boring waiting around, fat dudes mouth breathing in vent, and an occassional glimpse at an ethereal dragon killing ppl

Don't let anyone try and convince you it was anything more than a last ditch effort to "win" p99 by denying select pixels to the rest of the server in perpetuity. Keep in mind, these are the same people who spent their precious vacation hours (or forego having employment at all) to play everquest 16-20 hours a day prior to the start of velious launch

I'm sure you can see the difference between killing Hadden and waking the Sleeper. One will respawn every 8? hours forever, the other will remove some mobs from the game who dropped some BiS or otherwise unique items.

Also as far as "experiencing content" is concerned, I fail to see what content are you referring to? Seeing the model of Kerafyrm? Google it and see it, there, you got your content experience.

The person(s) who decided to wake the sleeper were doing it to spite the rest of the server and secure the legacy status of their robes, sceptres, masks, etc.

Rest of the guild members followed because they figured "if I don't go there, they will still do it without me and I won't even be able to say I was there".


You won't ever get Dainty Gloves or that CHA mask on your new enchanter on P99 because some unemployed overweight nerd who hadn't showered in a week decided so after his third daily wank. You're welcome.

Again, the "Content" poor Rampage would have been denied is a 30 second script of watching a buggy model killing some models in other zones. No extra loot. In exchange for that they permanently decreased content for everyone else.
