naw it was always just a cold spell graphic. I remember when I was a kid some gnome got it early on and was in So ro while I was killing alligators and I asked him to cast it.

I begged and begged, but he was like dude I killed like 6 alligators in front of you.

Thats when I realized it was just a cold spell graphic.

Ice comet was different then the basic cold spell. Same with with mage bolts. Here they're a small ball. On live that shit was huge and would keep going until it hit something.
