I'll probably go for the SCHW since they're cheaper and crusty gloves only give STR which I should have in excess. I'll fill out the other slots with whatever I can buy.

I think I will likely play an Ogre since we all want to be evil this time around. Do I need to swap in a shield if i have slam? You need to train in bash at level 6 I think? After that, using slam will use your bash skill. You won't need a shield.

Your trio sounds pretty solid. You guys should have fun!
