This one's easy - that shitty strobing light around the 0:40 mark that rapidly pulses with every drumbeat or rhythm guitar note. If you think your music is heavy, you don't need to visibly pulse that shit into my brain. Let the music speak for itself.

I've seen something similar in other Youtube metal videos, where the video itself shakes with every rhythm guitar note, as if you're in an earthquake. I guess it's supposed to make the song seem 'heavier' but it has the opposite effect because of how artificial it is. Just let the damn music play.

I used to be really into metal but I just don't understand how people 30+ can get into cookie monster shit. When you are young the novelty of the "heaviness" of shit like Mortician is ok but I would imagine most people grow out of that right?

It does, but bands like Cattle Decapitation worked to refine their sound and got away from strictly grind. It's more the band maturing and realizing how to work within the medium, or do what Opeth did and go total prog rock, Emerson Lake and Palmer style, from Death Metal. Age does play into it no doubt.

You see this type of thinking often, especially with people who used to enjoy metal and hip-hop. It was a phase for you and you enjoyed the novelty of it. It's not a phase for others and they enjoy it for the artistic merit. That's why you no longer like it and others do. It's that simple.

I like a lot of different types of music. I branch out listen to other music but I don't stop enjoying what I like.
