Yup, probably the most famous Afrikaans speaker, at least in recent pop culture, is Charlize Theron. Apparently I was mistaken in my earlier post attributing it to the Boers, but given the history of South Africa and race relations, I don't think it is a stretch to say the only reason it is an official language is due to the white people who spoke it. Approx. 40% of Afrikaans speakers today are white.
I mostly just wanted to point out that Tiggles analogy is completely nonsensical. | ||
