Was overhearing a German businessman's conversation in LA one night.
He said people would spit on his Ferrari in Munich and that the German people were so bitter they would jeer and swear anywhere he went. He said he realized he can never change the German people, and his wife and family moved to Los Angeles. He said he feels bad that other German businessmen don't know about this place where people congratulate success and are nice to people who have achieved success. (a socially normal response). He said in this American environment, capitalism, he feels motivated to achieve even more. And to date, no one has spit on his car since he relocated or even looked at him funny. Instead they just want to talk to him. Major cultural difference. Socialism decays.

1. Buy fancy car specifically intended to show people how rich you are 2. Germans know better than to be impressed by pathetic status symbol 3. Move to USA 4. Stupid Americans slobber all over Ferrari If impressing strangers with your wealth is what motivates you to achieve, you have something wrong in your fucking head.

It's the same thing in Finland. The majority of people HATE anyone who they perceive as 'rich' aka successful and fiances their socialist welfare state. Despite being scorned if you ask the wealthy people why they stay the typical answer is always the same; because they love their country. It's a shame.
