Seems to me that people who get really talkity about spirituality and their metaphysical revelations just want to talk. Maybe they have a need to say some things, to express, to speak. I think we all sort of need opportunities to speak, to share what we think. And this spirituality stuff is a really, really safe subject matter - it's all love. Can't really say someone's wrong there. So it's safe to go balls out and start expressing yourself. And there, a need is being satisfied. Maybe not the core need, but it's a step there; it's developing to the real truth. And that's helpful.
I have nothing against the new, modern, popular, western spirituality - if people want to share about love, great. But Daywolf points out something key - those people can often get touchy and judgmental about anyone else's point of view if it's not just "love love love". And that isn't love. So it's a tricky thing. But as far as trends go, I think it's a positive thing. I try to just enjoy the positivity from these people and really express truth to them - they're saying they can take it, so give it to em!
Edit: I'm definitely talking out of my ass for a lot of that.
