I look at it this way, consider this server as a server that doesn't allow multiple connections from the same ip. If you do get an exemption, it's a privilege, and it's up to you to make sure it doesn't appear that you're abusing it. Because if you start making excuses (guy is getting me a beer) then everyone could have one and i'm sure we'd hear some really good excuses.

Also it's worth noting that the people who get banned for 2 boxing are the ones who probably do MOST of the time have 2 people playing from the same IP, but then there's the temptation of 2 boxing just because you can... and that's when you'll get caught.
Okay. So it's a privilege and you must appear that you aren't abusing it. What constitutes appearing to be abusing it? Why do you assume that the "appearing" situations are obvious? I'm saying perhaps these situations should be highlighted by GMs so people know what sort of behavior can be considered two-boxing. To reiterate, highlighting these situations will not aid two-boxers because offenders will likely be the ones who are ultra-careful. Innocent people aren't going to carefully consider "suspicious" behavior. I don't think the burden should be put on innocent people to decide what behavior is wrong, which is why I suggest GM should draft a small list of things that can be construed as suspicious. They can easily copy and paste this to a person when they grant an IP exemption saying PLEASE READ . I think this would tremendously help innocent people avoid complications and is the prudent course of action to insure people don't run into unnecessary problems.

If one person in a house with an IP exemption needs to afk for more than 2 minutes, you should probably stop killing xp mobs or boot the afk person from the group so he/she doesn't benefit. If one person in a house with an IP exemption needs to afk for more than 5 minutes, that person should just camp out. Also, under no circumstances, ever, should one person head to the others' keyboard to move them or loot something or control them in any way.

What I just said isn't detailed anywhere by the devs, but if I had a roommate who played and an ip exemption, those are the guidelines we'd play by. I'd also think pretty hard about never using auto-follow.

That was my "common sense" response to the rules and the dev responses I have seen over the last 11 months on this server. /shrug

I can see both sides of this.

As for my situation...I live in a house with 2 other players. We all are ex-EQ and I got the bright idea to try this out; it caught on. Now, 2 of us work 9-5 while the other one takes classes. I have managed to out-level simply because I've managed to get on more than them (and have had access at different locations). Now, my 9-5 room mate has had a few days off and has caught up to me. We can both now hunt in Oasis together. At this point, if/when we get the IP exemption, I am going to be super-paranoid about every little thing we do. Whether he is AFK or I am. This isn't really a problem right now at lower levels, but once we're higher it may be. Regardless, if they were to look at our tells or our general behavior, they would DEFINITELY see we are in fact different people on the same IP.

As for the flip side. I blatantly saw a high level sham/ low war 2 box-ing in Oasis yesterday. PL'ing and auto-followed.

Yeah, i've petitioned obvious 2boxers numerous times, but I never get even a response. I hope they investigate the reports at least.
